Artfull Deception

The CaixaForum in Palma opened in 1993 as a cultural centre in the presence of the Spanish king and queen. For the first 20 years of its existence, admission to its exhibitions, some of them excellent and exemplary, was gratis, free of charge, on the house, for free, or franc as the Mallorquins would say. Alas, no more. As of January 2014, we are expected to pay an admission charge of 4 €, unless one happens to be a client of the CaixaBank or one of its affiliates. Well, count me out. I object to being duped, however artfully, into paying for art that should be rightfully ours to see and to behold. Such as Hermenegild Anglada Camarasa‘s El Tango de la Corona (ca. 1910), shown here. The photo was taken in Palma de Mallorca, Baleares, Spain. The date: February 20th, 2014.
